Filmmakers’ Freedom of Speech Association

Support the Association and help Fredrik Gertten, Margarete Jangård and WG Film in their fight for freedom of speech and support the screening of their documentary BANANAS!* all over the world!

We are a number of people who protest against the fact that filmmakers are being attacked by corporations and nations all over the world. By force of their size and strength they act in a way that in the long run will limit the individual’s right to express herself freely in speech, in moving pictures and in writing. This has been especially true in the case of BANANAS!*.

In order to be able to support filmmakers whose freedom of speech is threatened we have founded the non-profit association Filmmakers’ Freedom of Speech. However, we believe that there are many more people who share our views and feel that it is high time to act. The risk that more corporations and nations take action as in the case of BANANAS!* is immediate.

The Association has decided to support director Fredrik Gertten, producer Margarete Jangård and their production company WG Film in their fight against the American corporation Dole Food, which has sued them for the documentary motion picture BANANAS!*. According to Dole, the movie destroys Doles reputation and the company has sued the above mentioned persons in the United States for libel and slander, something Dole threatened to do even before they had seen the picture!

We believe in the freedom of speech. Criticism and debate is part of a democratic society. The point of the lawsuit is not only to silence the filmmakers, but to try and silence the public discussion of the topic. Dole want to draw the attention away from their own actions.

Power, money and influence shall not be the able to determine which texts are to be printed or which motion pictures are to be shown. We need your help. Join the Association and show your support! All donations marked BANANAS!* will go directly to the legal process Dole vs. Fredrik Gertten, Margarete Jangård and WG Film.
